The first thing we notice as we begin our journey is the color of the water…so blue”tiful”!😊
We see some amazing riverfront homes.
We cross paths with large freighters.
But none measure up to this goliath freighter. The Paul R. Tregurtha, at 1,013.5 ft., is the current “Queen of the Great Lakes”. This is an unofficial, but widely used title, given to the longest vessel active on the Great Lakes.
We enjoy the leisurely cruise up the St. Clair River and arrive to Sarnia, Ontario. Sarnia is the largest Canadian city on Lake Huron with a population around 72,000. It is the birthplace of Canada’s petrochemical industry with more than 35 interrelated chemical companies, hence Sarnia’s nickname of “Chemical Valley”.
Sarnia has a beautiful waterfront park along the St. Clair River. A walk through the park is a real treat on this beautiful day with the blue sky and bright sunshine highlighting the park’s wonderful flower gardens and water features.
While the views in the park are gorgeous, the one from the marina not so much. Adjacent to Sarnia Bay Marina is one of their trademark industrial plants, which unfortunately shares its noises and smells with the mariners.
It was a quick first day in Canada. Tomorrow the weather window has a slight opening and we will take advantage of it and make the long trek across Lake Huron to Tobermory, Canada.
Wow the water houses and gardens are just gorgeous! Looks like you lucked out with a beautiful sunny day as well. Love all the pictures especially of the ginormous freighter 😮
We truly have with the weather!
