The rain finally stops around noon and it appears everyone is now on their boat, heading likely back home, on this soggy Sunday morning. We join in the fray and head to Kelley’s Island!
We arrive to Kelley’s Island Seaway Marina.
First order of business is to rent a golf cart. The golf cart rental was more expensive than the slip! Being the largest Lake Erie Island, at 2837 acres, we will use the cart to explore the area, with the added benefit of transporting our dirty clothes to the laundry room (which is not the best).
Kelley’s Island is a tiny community with only 153 full time residents. During the warmer months however, hundreds board the ferry boats daily from the mainland and arrive to enjoy the restaurants, pubs, stores, glacial groves and beautifully restored homes, some over 150 years old. The golf cart lets us explore the island, in between the downpours of rain showers.
While the town does have a few stores and restaurants, there really isn’t that much of selection, especially when it comes to Monday. We opt to cook on the boat and find a self serve market stand within the marina grounds.
Despite this tiny island, we were able to participate in open play pickleball with the Kelley’s Island Pickleball Club. The courts are used for tennis, basketball and pickleball so there are a lot of painted lines in different colors going on! They are a great group of people with one even being from Cincinnati. I have a feeling we will see her again this fall at Sawyer Point!
We had a quick, restful, but soggy, visit to Kelley’s Island. Our next stop is to Middle Bass Island to visit Captain Tom’s brother. Another quick and easy journey ahead.
Love all the pics and commentary. Thank you for bringing us along on your trip. : )
Thanks Raelynn!❤
