It is another beautiful day as we leave Winter Harbor and travel west on the Oneida River. We travel to the Three River area in which, imagine this, three rivers meet (just like in Pittsburgh!). The Oneida, which we are on, will meet with the Oswego and Seneca Rivers.
We will continue on the Erie Canal until we reach Buffalo and Lake Erie. Those with larger boats, over the height of 15’6″ (height limited by the upcoming bridges) must travel through the Oswego Canal to Lake Ontario. The Oswego Canal is 23 miles long with 7 locks. It is a critical connection to Lake Ontario.
We pass by a very pretty golf course outside of Belgium, NY.
As we approach Baldwinsville, we will need to pass through lock #24. The city wall is on our port side. We will tie up for the night. They charge $5 night for 30 amp service. We use 50 amp, so we use our splitter, and put $10 in the honor box. They also have water hookups, free of charge.
For dinner, we walk over the lock bridge and into downtown Baldwinsville. Baldwinsville is a small village, on the outskirts of Syracuse, with residents totaling around 7,700. For our stops on the Erie Canal, it is one of the larger towns thus far.
As it is a Monday, not much is open for dinner tonight. We heed the recommendation of local passerby’s and head to Sal’s Pizza and Restaurant. It is not quite LaRosa’s (a Cincinnati icon for pizza), but it is pretty good and quite crowded, probably because they are the only game in town!
All in all, an easy quick day on the canal. Next Stop: Newark, NY
Love seeing all these small towns!

Love seeing all these pictures. Small town America!!
Definitely small town America!

Thanks for the photos of Baldwinsville. We haven’t been back there for probably 15 years. It was a great community to live in. The best place to eat when we lived there was the B’ville Dinner (think homemade coconut and banana cream pies) and you must have been close to it when you took the picture of the Methodist Church we attended.
Shoot! Wish we would have know that. We walked right past that place on the way to Sal’s.
