Todays journey will be 85 miles, covering several bodies of water in the ICW. We will start in the Pungo River in Belhaven, then journey into the Pungo River-Alligator River Canal to the Alligator River then to Albesmarle Sound and finally into the North River to our destination of Coinjack Marina.
The river and canals provide the most navigational challenges as the channel is narrow and the boat traffic quite busy. Everyone must be heading to Coinjack! Who knew??
After a 5 1/2 hour trip, we arrive to Coinjack, a metropolis of 335 people. We need diesel, so first thing, we fill up at the fuel dock. Afterwards, the dockhands pull us down the one long dock and tuck us in tight to the boat behind us. We are one of the first to arrive, but they tell us every night they are full, often having boats rafting off each other. Tonight, the dock will be full, but no rafting needed.
Upon arrival, we are quickly told that if we want prime rib for dinner, now is the time to order, as they always sell out. Seems like the thing to do, so the Captain puts us down for two 16 ounce prime rib dinners. Even though prime rib is not my thing, he doesn’t want me missing out! When in Coinjack, you eat prime rib.
We finish dinner and head back to the boat. The Jury is deadlocked regarding the prime rib but we both give two thumbs up to the turtle cheesecake! It will be a long day tomorrow so we head back to Prime 11, which is tugged in tight for the night.
Onto Virginia we go!
