Our route this day is 105 miles. It is a long day as we leave the anchorage around 10 am and arrive to our slip at Harbor Springs around 5:30 PM.
It is a picture perfect morning and we enjoy our coffee and breakfast in the quiet seclusion of this cove.
While the dew still covers the seats and tables in the cockpit, we wind up the anchor. With U.S. soil and diesel fuel on our to do list, we head to St. Ignace, MI.
Calm waters greet us as we leave Harbor Island and make our way to to St. Ignace.
We arrive to St. Ignace and Prime 11 double barrels their fuel pumps, drinking her fill of diesel. While at the fuel dock, we check into U.S. Customs. It is seamless and easy coming back into the U.S.
As we leave St. Ignace, we have one more trip under the Big Mac Bridge.
Beautiful with the full sunshine this day.
As we cross under the Big Mac and head into Lake Michigan, the water gets bigger as does the other vessels.
The last half of the trip is not as smooth with growing Lake Michigan swells.
We are happy to turn into Little Traverse Bay, with its water much calmer than Lake Michigan’s. It has been a long day and the sun is much lower than usual as we arrive to our slip at Harbor Springs Municipal Marina. It is after 5 PM; we are tired and, more importantly, late for docktails!
Harbor Springs is a quaint little town on the shores of Little Traverse Bay.
It is a picture perfect postcard town…
With well kept yards…
and a quaint downtown area…
filled with high end boutique stores and eateries.
It is the summer playground of the well to do, who desire to leave the heat and humidity of Detroit and Chicago. The rustic “up north” Canadian summer life thrives here; it is just a bit more refined at this “up north” location.
The summer cottage
The SUV
The utility golf cart
The boat
So naturally, it goes without saying, the moon in Harbor Springs during our visit is what else…
a super
There was no hardship with repeating a trip to Harbor Springs. We love this little town! Next venture: Petoskey, as we make our way south, once more, on the Lake Michigan’s eastern shore.

Surprised (pleasantly) that you are back tracking back into Michigan. 105 miles that’s a haul.
Harbor Springs, Petosky, Charlevoix–all so beautiful. (Especially this time of year)
Where and when will you be storing for Winter?

Tom, we will store once again in Grand Haven.
My home town! I saw you while you were in town, I work at Irish Boat Shop and walked the dock while you were at the city marina.
Beautiful home town!! We love Harbor Springs!
