We happily leave the anchorage and head to Gore Bay, ON, 15 miles away.
There are still some white caps, but in general the weather has improved since the overnight storms. While most of the U.S. is battling a heat wave, it remains a cool and windy 57 degrees this morning in the North Channel.
We arrive to Gore Bay Marina, for hopefully ,an enjoyable night of sleep.
Gore Bay is a small town on Manitoulin Island. They take pride in their town’s close knit community comprised of 900 friendly residents. We are relieved to dock at their town’s marina this day and gladly add an additional two happy residents to their count!
All tucked in and very quiet
The marina is well kept with a nice walking trail…
and is located within a nice protected and quiet cove off of Lake Huron.
We explore the town, which also is very quiet!
Downtown Gore Bay. Where is everyone?
Small bakery and health food store.
We enjoy a beer at a small brewery near the water.
We have dinner at a fish and chip restaurant right near the marina. It is a little too chilly for outdoor dining this evening.
We take a stroll along the town’s break wall.
Sun is out but it is still windy and cool!
Beautiful clear skies as the sun sets.
The next morning we leave Gore Bay and head once again to Harbor Island for a night at anchor. Yes, we are going to try this again!
We cruise 68 miles to the protective cove of Harbor Island, just off of Drummond Island, and will drop anchor for the night. We are technically now in U.S. waters, but will wait to check in with U.S. customs until we get to St. Ignace.
It is a clear day with bright skies at the anchorage and we spot several bald eagles flying.
Unfortunately clouds roll in as the sun sets. No starry skies tonight. Tomorrow, onto St. Ignace and back to the USA!
