We leave Little Current and travel 19 miles to our anchorage at South Benjamin Island.
The sun is out and the lake is calm. A great day for a cruise.
Our destination is the Benjamin Islands. This anchorage is very popular among boaters for its gorgeous scenery. With the pink granite rocks contrasting against the tall pines, the beauty is just spectacular.
We scout out a good place to drop an anchor. It appears as if there is something in the water, and there is…a huge rock. As rocks don’t just line the steep cliffs, but are also submerged within the water randomly, we need to navigate slowly and look thoroughly to avoid a costly mishap.
Once anchored, we relax and enjoy the views.
Granite Cliffs surround us in our cove.
There are a few other boats with us this evening.
As the beautiful day ends, storm clouds, wind and rain begin. The stronger waves combine force with the howling winds and wage war against the hull of Prime 11. We “button down the hatches” as things are bounced off of shelves and countertops. The anchor holds, but the fear of it not, keeps us alert and awake all night. We are not the only ones losing sleep as other boats turn on their flash lights, cabin lights and spot lights double checking their hold too. It was a very rough and unpleasant night. A special thanks to our niece, in Cincinnati, who conveniently decided to be in labor ALL NIGHT. The baby watch event kept us entertained! As the sun rose, and Little Louie was born, we eagerly pulled anchor and headed to a marina in Gore Bay!
