Originally designed as a two unit, construction on the 2nd unit was abandoned, despite having all the structures built, including the second 500 foot cooling tower. This nuclear plant was scheduled to close in 2021, as they could not compete with the natural gas plants. To avert the closing, the Ohio House passed Bill 6, funding the plant from residents&#8217; utility bills. Since then, the US DOJ has found this bill to be part of the Ohio Nuclear Bribery Scandal. While it is actually only 3 miles offshore, its tunnel stretches 5 miles to the pumping station. It is the only water intake above the surface of Lake Erie.<\/em><\/strong><em><strong> Its construction, over 100 years ago, did not come without a heavy price.
